Packet size - 1kg
Build healthier soil the natural way with Meldon Seeds’ Autumn & Winter Green Manure Mix. Specially formulated to protect and improve your soil through the colder months, this mix is ideal for vegetable plots, allotments, raised beds, and larger garden areas left fallow after summer crops.
A carefully balanced blend of hardy green manure varieties, it establishes quickly to provide reliable ground cover, helping to suppress weeds and reduce soil erosion caused by winter rain and wind. Deep and fibrous root systems improve soil structure, preventing compaction while enhancing drainage and aeration.
As the plants grow, they capture nutrients that might otherwise be lost over winter. When cut down and dug in or left as a surface mulch in spring, the foliage breaks down to add valuable organic matter, boosting soil fertility and encouraging beneficial soil life for the next growing season.

How to Use – Autumn & Winter Green Manure Mix
Sowing rate: 10–15g per m²
When to sow
Sow from late summer to early autumn (August to October), once beds are cleared of crops and while the soil is still warm enough for germination.
Soil preparation
Remove weeds and debris from the area. Lightly dig or rake the soil to create a fine, level seedbed.
Sowing
Broadcast the seed evenly over the soil surface at the recommended rate. Lightly rake in to cover the seed, then gently firm the soil. Water well if conditions are dry.
Growing on
The green manure will establish quickly and provide ground cover throughout autumn and winter. It requires little attention once established and helps protect the soil from erosion and weed growth.
Over winter
Allow the crop to grow through winter. It will capture nutrients, improve soil structure, and add organic matter.
Cutting down / Incorporation
In late winter or early spring, before flowering or seed set:
-
Cut or mow the plants down.
-
Either dig the foliage into the topsoil or leave it on the surface as a mulch.
If digging in, allow 2–4 weeks for the plant material to break down before sowing or planting crops.
After use
The soil will be enriched, better structured, and ready for planting spring vegetables or other crops.
